Apple Arcade Thoughts

I have somehow managed to get Apple Arcade for free two times now and in those two times I have tried a handful of the exclusive games. My two favorite games are The Survivalist and Oceanhorn 2.
Oceanhorn 2 Thoughts

Oceanhorn 2 was a nice role playing game (or as gamers call it RPG) where you (a knight) go on an adventure to become a hero. Like many games you start off with a low skill set, little to no supplies, etc and must work your way up to become more powerful. I can hardly call myself a gamer, but I did enjoy the adventure that the game took you on and the graphics were stunning. I would say it reminded me of the Zelda game that I played on the Wii (I told you I wasn't much of a gamer lol). But like with many RPG games I have played, I eventually got into a fight/puzzle I could not solve and that was it for Oceanhorn 2.
LEGO Brawls Thoughts

The next game I played that deserves an honorable mention is LEGO Brawls. LEGO Brawls is a teamwork game where you are on a team and must take over the other teams base. Sort of like Capture the Flag but you have to stay on the opposing teams base for a certain amount of time in order to win the round. What I liked about LEGO Brawls was the Lego building that you could do. By implementing a special attack the character would build a machine that would be extra powerful. I enjoyed watching the little character quickly build the machine and I also liked how customizable the characters were. Playing LEGO Brawls brought back happy memories of me building Legos as a kid. The easy to use controls helped make the gaming experience enjoyable and fun while still being competitive.
The Survivalist Thoughts

My second favorite game on Apple Arcade is a newer game called The Survivalist. Unlike the other two the animation is more pixelated and does not have nearly as nice of graphics/animation. This style of game is called a Pixel Art Game and in The Survivalist you play a character that becomes stranded on an island and must find its way to escape. With a simple objective the game fosters a go on your own adventure style where you can craft, fight, and explore the multiple islands nearby the one you got stranded on. My favorite feature of the game are the Monkeys. On the island one of the first things you see are these little monkeys that have different symbols on them. I found out that by crafting and giving the monkey whatever the symbol was (like a fruit bowl) the monkey becomes loyal and will do whatever action you tell it to. I mainly use my monkeys to fight off these green people who try to kill me and I use them to kill animals that are trying to attack me. I also color coordinate my monkeys to better differentiate them. For example my combat monkeys are purple colored with pirate hats, and my crafting monkeys where chef hats and are light green/blue. I find this game to be most enjoyable when lounging around. The game most reminds me of Minecraft which I also enjoyed, but just like Minecraft I also get bored by the game. Sometimes I can go hours playing the game but usually once I get bored I don't play again till I feel the urge to play.
Apple Arcade Thoughts

With the games I have played I would say Apple Arcade has a ways to go before becoming competitive to the large amount of free games out there. What I find most appealing about Apple Arcade is the fact that there are no ads in the games. That was one of my biggest pet peeves with free games because I would become so enthralled with a game but then the stupid 30 second ads would occur every 5 minutes which infuriated me more than it should. While Apple Arcade does not have a huge selection of games, there are handfuls of games that can be highly addicting/fun to play. I feel in a couple of years the subscription based gaming system will become a lot more appealing.
