Big Phones. Big Issues

If you recall in my "Electric Vehicles Drove into CES in a Big Way" post, I talked about the lack of innovation that has been occurring in smartphones, which is why companies like Samsung have begun moving onto the next big thing. The smartphone industry has reached its peak of what can be accomplished with a slab and is why the upgrades have been minimal/redundant. Each year it has become "better battery, faster processing power, and BIGGER screens". Even with Apple's iPhone 12 Pro Max, Apple made it clear in it's keynote that the Pro Max is the biggest screen ever in an iPhone coming in at 6.7 inches and Samsung's latest S21 lineup has a phone that is 6.8 inches big. Over the years as smartphones have progressed, having a big phone was advertised as the ultimate smartphone experience. A bigger phone meant a bigger screen and battery, but now we see a shift in smartphones as a whole. Most phones now have spectacular screens, great cameras, and a decent battery life. Although, the increased innovation has led phones to reach their full potential leaving the latest and greatest phones to become decreasingly less awesome.
Except for Apple cuz their the best! But seriously, Apple does tend to be fashionably late to these sorts of things. While Apple is not always the first to have a 120 hertz screen (which is how many times the screen refreshes and the more it does, the smoother scrolling is), OLED screens, 100x zoom, and a slew of other features, I believe that this strategy not only allows Apple to perfect these features but also allows them to deliver new the features more spread out therefore giving them more time to prolong the excitement around their products.
With all the new features and competition to provide the latest and greatest features, I have also noticed the phones have gotten bigger. Bigger screens, bigger sizes, bigger feature list, etc. For some reason the "best" phone has now become synonymous with the biggest phone. For Samsung their best phones are advertised as the Note series, and for Apple its their Pro series. While I love having the greatest phone in the market, I dislike the size. For me its a love hate relationship because I love the big screens of bigger phones, but I also dislike the number of times I drop my phone in a week. I did this a lot with my iPhone 7 Plus lol.
But what really is the worst thing about big phones is the cases! Phone cases add way more bulk to an already bulky phone and for my little hands its too much pressure. Too big of a phone combined with an even bigger case leads to multiple fumbles. This is why when I saw a phone case company where they left the sides of the phone exposed, I was thrilled. Now I could finally hold the actual phone without having to worry about added bulk or losing the safety benefit of a case! You see its more the case that I have to put on big phones that I dislike. I find when I hold the phone itself I am able to get a much better grip but then I run the risk of breaking my phone if I drop it then I would rather put a case on it. But now I am facing the issue of not being able to order a case for my new phone since the company has not been able to produce the case with exposed sides. The phone case company just opened up last year so they have been using funds to do more research and development and are not able to do as much on a mass scale.
Here is the phone case I am referencing so much lol and by clicking the image you can check out the company
Seeeeee?!?!? Doesn't that look AMAZING??? Btw this is not a sponsor, but I wish it was. Some may argue that this doesn't give as much protection, but I believe otherwise. You see most times when a person drops a phone the corners, front, and back of the phone are impacted the most. NOT THE SIDES. The only way the sides could be impacted is if you drop your phone on gravel but at that point the screen is also at risk. Unfortunately the only cases they have been able to produce are the cases with closed sides (Rebel Case) and are currently working on the exposed side case (Frosted & Crystal Case). It's just frustrating that the company didn't prioritize the Frosted and Crystal cases because those were the cases that made the company so unique. AHHH! I'm literally drooling over this case!!! I had this case on my iPhone 7 Plus and LOVED it which is why I am eagerly waiting for the case to come out for the iPhone 12 Pro Max!!
