Community College Thoughts

Updated: Apr 28, 2021

I love the fact that I have had the opportunity to be able to do dual enrollment throughout high school! I have been able to save $30k by being a college student at my local community college and it has become my home away from home. I loved the convenience of dual enrollment since it allowed me to take college classes right down the hill of my high school and I found staff to be nice. Even though some of my friends had bad professors, I have had pretty good professors so far. I think having a professor who cares about a student's success is the best type of professor because those are the professors that will put forth the effort to teach the content well. To me it does not matter what level a professor is at whether that be community or university level because there can be horrible professors at a university but the only difference is that the university professor gets paid far more and the student will have wasted thousands of dollars for that one class. Community college has been better than I could have imagined because it showed me that you do not have to go to a university level school in order to get a quality education. Honestly it does not make sense why people go to a university to get their general education done, when they could get all of those classes done for far cheaper at a community college. Especially in California where tuition at a good university can get very pricey when you include room and board. To me I think I will enjoy university life much better when I am in the higher up courses since those are the courses where you meet more people interested in the same career as you and are more dedicated towards their education since they have already spent two years trying to get the degree. I know the standard way of college is to go to a university right out of high school, but this standard way is very costly and financially cumbersome in the long run.

In hindsight, community college should be given more hype because it is the more financially sound route and brings the same college experience.
