My Journey With Website Creation

Updated: Apr 29, 2021

Creating websites and "making" my own business used to daunt me but thanks to cloud-based web development services Wix, I have grown to love making websites. From blogs to shopping websites, I have been experimenting with the powerful tools Wix provides.

Beginnings

When I first created a website it was for a 9th grade school project and I had stupidly volunteered for the website creator role since I thought it would be an easy task since it was mostly designing. But little did I know that I would be spending over 3 hours learning how to use Wix and then an additional 3 hours actually creating the website. After creating that website I thought I would never create another website again since it was highly time consuming and I didn't understand how to use Wix well enough to understand how to design a website. But after a few months I began to get extremely bored and thought of a lame reason to create another website. This boredom allowed me to fully immerse myself into Wix and over time learn more and more about the tools they provide for free!

Moving forward

Looking back through my high school careers I realized that creating websites was an outlet for my creative side. I am happy to have found a hobby where I can use my organizational skills along with design skills in one. Designing was never that appealing to me because I thought that in order to be "creative' that meant drawing things, playing instruments, or making videos. None of these I was great at nor wanted to take the time to put in the effort, but website creating was something that required me to take all of the font options, images, colors, etc and find ways to take these already made "art" and compile them into one. Aside from photography, website creation was the only thing I could spend hours working on without feeling bored or frustrated. Looking back at all the websites I have created has made me realize that I am becoming more and more skilled at my hobby. I now analyze other people's websites and compare my websites to others to see how I can improve my websites. Through this I have learned a lot. Moving forward I hope to create a little business out of this hobby by helping others make their dreams come true.

Website's Importance

Yes I know a website is only one part of the overall dream, but I believe having a strong website can help anyone with their goal. If you want to be a blogger, you need a user friendly/appealing website. if you have a goal of opening up a business, you need a solid website to display your products and build credibility, After all you can't always expect to sell things on Facebook Marketplace or Etsy. While those can be great for beginning, I believe if you want to move your business to the next step then having a strong website can be a great foundation. Even if you want to educate people about a topic, having an appealing website to engage people in the topic is important for reaching a wider audience.

My business plan

Through my business I hope to learn more about website creation while helping people achieve their goals. I am still in the beginning phases of the planning process but I am excited about the prospects of this goal. My game plan right now is to create a website (what a shocker) where I can list my goals for the client, examples of websites I have created to show my range of ability, and contact info. There are a lot of things I still have to think about such as pricing of my services, design of my business website, marketing, how I will be able to handle multiple clients, and cost of running the business (although, I think it will be fairly cheap since the client would most likely be expected to pay for domains, and premium features that Wix offers). Regardless, I believe that while companies like Wix have come a long way in helping people to create their own websites the main caveat is that building a website unique to your needs takes time. Even if you use one of Wix's templates, it can still take a few hours to build a quality website. That is where I would come in. To not only take time off of people's/businesses hands, but to guide and help them become savvy with using their website so they can continue to build the business on their own.
