First off I would like to say Happy New Years! Secondly, I know I have not made blog posts for a very long time and that is in part due to personal events and not being motivated enough to write. But I am planning on changing that this year!

Moving on to a different topic, college has been on my mind a lot now that I am a senior in high school. I have applied to 7 colleges and heard back from 4/7 of them, which has been exciting! The colleges I heard back from were Santa Clara University, University of San Francisco, Loyola Marymount University, and Arizona State University-Tempe. 3/4 of the colleges I got accepted into are in California which is where I live, and the other college is out of state. While I did apply mostly to instate universities, I did apply to 2 out of state. Those were Arizona State University-Tempe and University of Texas-Austin.
The reason I applied to them was due to cost and opportunity. Both of these schools are in places where there is either a growing sector in finance (like in Arizona) or a growing sector in technology (like in Austin Texas). For those who do not know I am planning to major in finance and I LOVE technology. I believe both of these schools will provide me with a slightly less competitive environment since both of these states are still growing whereas in California there are established sectors and a highly competitive job market. At first I was only planning to apply to California universities since I had the closed off mindset of California being the best and the only way I could become successful was to get a degree from a California university. I also believed that by applying to universities in the Silicon Valley, I would be able to work at a big tech firm like Apple and live happily ever after as a multimillionaire living in Silicon Valley. But when I started seeing news articles of large tech companies moving away from Silicon Valley, I began to second guess my goal of going to a university in one of the most expensive cities in America.
What I began to realize was that there is opportunity in a lot of states. Applying to Arizona was more for cost reasons at first and then I was more excited about having applied once I found out that the finance sector was growing in Arizona therefore creating more oppurtunities. Applying to UT-Austin was more for the fact that I believed Austin was going to become the next Silicon Valley. Right now my number 1 school is UT-Austin, but I am worried about the competition. With an acceptance rate of 32% and me being from out of state, that makes UT-Austin highly competitive to me. I would say my number 2 school is Arizona State University-Tempe since I got a nice scholarship and that would be the cheapest school to attend. As of now I do not think I will attend any California universities just because of the cost of them.
Ultimately I am excited for what the future brings and am REALLY hoping I get accepted into UT-Austin which I wont know until March. Other than college I have been binging a lot of TV shows (as I am sure many people have been doing recently, reading a little more (read a full book for the first time in a long time lol), and have been watching more YouTube videos about finance.
The plan/goals for 2021 is to blog at least once a week (so make sure to check in frequently), start reading more, and working on my mental health. Thanks for reading and here's to a mentally healthy and better 2021!
